Alherds of the population has been steadily declining since the launch of the policy of land reform in the early 1960-ies. In 2000 less than ten families still lived in the village. Then, some emigrants returned from Tehran and built a summer residence. Currently the village is experiencing an unprecedented construction boom, that one can easily see by comparing the photos. According to a later and, perhaps, reliable statistics of the population of 70 people in 18 families. The increase in the number of households is not indicated in these statistics, as the new residents do not consider themselves residents. Population decline is a reflection of a General trend in any region where due to the lack of jobs the younger generation cant manage a decent life.

Ashura, the 10th day of the lunar month of Muharram, the day on which the celebrations of mourning in memory of the martyrdom of Imam Husayns, reached its climax. In Alherd, there are three Toğs, palm sized metallic icons fixed on a medium wooden handles. According to locals, these icons to perform persistent random movements in the hands alamdars carriers until noon during Ashura. In the accompanying photo of two persons toğ see who is surrounded by mourners beating on the legs. One toğ still. It seems that other toğ performs random moves and pulling the holder.
