19th-century London

During the 19th century, London grew enormously to become a global city of immense importance, and the capital of the British Empire. It was the largest city in the world from about 1825, the worlds largest port, and the heart of international finance and trade. Railways connecting London to the rest of Britain, as well as the London Underground was built, as were roads, a modern sewer system and many famous sites.

Although not often highlighted in American history, before Rosa Parks changed America when she was arrested for refusing to give up her seat to a white passenger on a Montgomery, Alabama city bus in December 1955, 19th century African-American civil rights activists worked strenuously from the 1850s until the 1880s for the cause of equal treatment in public transportation.

Bahaullah, founder of the Bahai Faith, wrote many books, tablets and prayers, of which only a fraction has been translated into English until now. He revealed thousands of tablets with a total volume more than 70 times the size of the Quran and more than 15 times the size of the Old Testament and New Testament of the Bible.
