A file format is a procedure to encode information for storage in a computer file. The databank format is an ASCII file format for time series econometric analysis. The format was popularized by micro Tsp.

The format of the database is used for data transmission a fixed annual frequency and for undated data. It is supported by TSP, th, and many other econometric applications. Traditionally, the file name ends with the extension.dB.

On inspection of the file of Bank data shows that the ASCII text file containing a single data series. The database file is formatted in the structure in series. The initial comment lines that begin with quotes. For from series, the next three lines specify the frequency, start date and end date. For undated series, the next two lines specify the start index and end index. The remaining lines are the data: one observation per line, or if missing.
